Please apply here: Ecology Job Opportunities | Careers at Ecology Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen The Department of Ecology is hiring a Toxics Reduction Engineer (Environmental Engineer 2) (In-Training) within the Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program. Location: Schedule: Application Timeline: Duties Do you want to use your engineering knowledge to solve complex environmental issues? Are you interested in joining a dynamic team that works directly with businesses to eliminate hazardous chemical use and prevent pollution? Ecology is looking for an engineer to join and grow our Toxics Reduction Technical Assistance team. In this position, you will learn and apply engineering techniques in the specialty areas of pollution prevention, safer chemical use, green engineering, resource conservation and hazardous waste management. You will work directly with Washington State Businesses to help them limit their waste, conserve resources, and save money. What you will do: What makes this role unique? Learn more about what it is like to be an Engineer at the Department of Ecology Qualifications This position offers an in-training plan and may be filled at the Engineering Aide 3 (EA3), Environmental Engineer 1 (EE1), or Environmental Engineer 2 (EE2) level, depending on your qualifications. If you qualify at the EA3 or EE1 level and are hired, you will progress through an in-training plan to become an EE2 within a specified time period. Required Qualifications: You may qualify through a combination of education and experience described below: Experience may include a combination of the following: At the Engineering Aide 3 level (In-Training) Pay Range 53, $4,882 - $6,576 monthly Four (4) years of experience and/or education as described above. Examples of how to qualify: At the Environmental Engineer 1 level (In-Training) Pay Range 56, $5,271 - $7,082 monthly Five (5) years of experience and/or education as described above. Examples of how to qualify: At the Environmental Engineer 2 level (Goal Class) Pay Range 62, $6,107 - $8,210 monthly Six (6) years of experience and/or education as described above. Examples of how to qualify: Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: Must complete 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training within 6 months. Desired Qualifications: Work experience within the fields of waste reduction, pollution prevention, green chemistry, safer alternative selection, or energy and water conservation. Knowledge of industrial processes involving hazardous substances, generation of hazardous or solid wastes, air emissions and wastewater discharges. Ability to prepare high quality materials for technical information (written and through presentation) with clarity to a wide audience. Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals and exercise the soft skills needed to network within business and academic communities.
